Santorini photos

These are the places that all the Santorini tourists are trying to photograph.
We had the luxury of being here for a week so there were days (with no cruise ships)
that were less crowded/difficult.
We also had mostly beautiful sunny days which always looks nice in photos.

The “three bells of Fira” with the volcano Nea Kameni in the background.

A view of Fira with the mountain Prophet Ilias in the background.

More church bells.

One of many blue-domed churches.

Two different sources have given different figures for the number of churches on Santorini. Whether it’s 600 or 1000 it’s A LOT.

The swarm of earthquakes has been finished for a couple of months.

This image shows where they were in relation to Santorini.

Darker colors are deeper earthquakes.

There was no damage on Santorini (no building cracks, broken windows, etc).

But, the cliffs are steep and rockfalls are always a danger.

So there are a few shoreline places that are still closed.

One is the port of Corfu on the island of Thirasia.

This closure is hard because the 300 people who live on Thirasia are nearly 100% dependent on tourism.

The year-round permanent population of Santorini is 20,000.

During the seven-month “season” (April-October) that swells by

15,000 seasonal workers.

We have no idea how many tourists visit.

Amoudi Bay (below Oia).

Closed until installation of the rockfall nets is finished.

Oia as seen from the water with a red arrow pointing to our accommodation.

This is what we deal with every time we come/go from our place because

we are right at the famous “3 Blue Domes”.

Short video Jeff took from the upper lounge deck at our place.

We consider ourselves very lucky that many cruise ships took Santorini off their itinerary this season due to the uncertainty with the earthquakes and logistical challenges due to one of the ports still being closed. We have had a couple of days with no cruise ship in port at all.

This is the photo they are all trying to take.

Not a lot different from the photo we can take from the lounge deck at our accommodation.

Jeff took this stunning night time picture (no crowds in our area after sunset

so it’s more practical to take your time to get the photo you want).

And this one looking the other way.

They weren’t all sunny days.
