Santorini “sailing” and Jeff’s 70th birthday

Our boat, Aphrodite, is the tall one.

Though it is a sailboat we were motoring, not sailing.

We visited Nea Kameni and got to “hike” to the summit.

View of Santorini from Nea Kameni

Up close it is obvious this is a volcanic landscape.

Thirasia on the left and Oia on the right.

Lots of iron oxide leaches out of the lava; you can see the red-orange right at the water line.

More obvious on this rope after it was pulled up.

View from the water of the zigzag road from the port to the village of Megalochori.

820’ of elevation gain in 2 miles.

That’s an 8% grade with tour busses, tour vans, taxis, and semis w/ trailer going both ways.

The zigzags get shorter on the right in the area that’s in the cloud shadow.

Some sweets, bubbly, and sunshine for the birthday boy.

He enjoyed the hot tub before we had massages (in our room!)

The people lined up outside to take the blue domes picture don’t have a view of the hot tub.
